McDonald's: Maggot-Infested Burger?
As if McDonald's doesn't have enough problems with the vegetarians and Hindus
suing the company for using beef flavoring in its french fries, it now faces
a $1 million lawsuit for selling a maggot-infested cheeseburger, Vincent Ingram,
an 11-year-old from Detroit, filed the lawsuit on Monday after he claims he ate
part of a McDonald's cheeseburger that was crawling with maggots. His attorney,
Arnold Reed, says Vincent ate the burger at home on on June 19 and discovered
the maggots only after chomping into it. "His sister is standing next to him
and starts freaking out, because she sees these things crawling around his mouth
and out of his mouth. She starts screaming." Reed told Reuters. The boy allegedly
swallowed at least half a dozen maggots. The only evidence: Vincent's mom saved
the rest of the cheeseburger and the boy's vomit.
"Since this incident, he's been freaking out. He won't eat," Reed said. According
to the lawsuit against the fast food giant, which was filed in Wayne County Circuit Court
in Michigan, the boy ate the cheeseburger shortly after it was bought. However, it does
not specify the exact amount of time that passed between the purchase and consumption of the
cheeseburger. McDonald's called the allegations "questionable" and said it had not received
any ffacts to back up the claims. "We have not been provided with any evidence to validate
this claim," the company's statement said. -- Cathryn Conroy
